A large group of pro-Biafara activists under the umbrella of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) are engaging in a ‘million man march’ in Ontisha to protest the detention of their leader and Radio Biafra director, Nnamdi Kanu. According to reports, the group earlier today blocked the Onitsha bridge entrance, and they are now protesting in Onitsha.

Since the almagamation of the Northern and Southern protetorate in 1912, The Cultural and Religious differences have always been an obstacle to the peaceful co-existence of Nigeria and Nigerians. While the North is predominatly Muslims, the South has a huge number of Christian population ranging from all denominations such as Catholics, Penticostals, Baptists, etc.

The Religions especially has played a huge role in the government, both during the military era and the present day democratic system. With the North dominating both era due to high Population, Religious descriminations and Political manipulations; The South had seen itself as the victim of circumstance which led to the Nigeria civil war between 1967 and 1970.

Only few people would have thought that after 45 years or so, the sad memories of over 3 million southerners killed during the war would have been laid to rest, but the struggle for freedom seem to be back with recent activities that has led to the arrest of Nnamdi.

Some of the protesters have also been leaving comments on the Radio Biafra facebook page:
